The stone carving on SOTA's homepage

When I first saw the carving (you can see it at http://www.societyoftheancients.com) it looked hauntingly familiar. But I couldn't figure out where I had seen it so I placed it in the back of my mind to ponder later.

That night I was watching the History Channel show, Ancient Discoveries through my cable's On Demand feature. It said what the episode was about, yada yada yada, then the show's name came onscreen. It was displayed over some water with a greenish-blue sky in the back ground.

That's when I saw it.

A pair of hands came out of the water holding a stone carving.
It's either the exact same carving, or a VERY similar one.

And it does seem to fit. Society of the Ancients. Ancient Discoveries. Both deal with what happened to us in the distant past.

Is History Channel somehow involved? Will we begin seeing SOTA commercials during Mail Call? Is Bungie just using the same stone carving? Or is it all just a coincidence?

It is a real object. No collusion between Bungie and the History Channel here.

There was always supposed to be a connection between SOTA and ancient discoveries. The aliens were/are the ancients, and the images on the site are known objects which SOTA believes are evidence of an advanced culture visiting Earth in the past. They're not secrets, their meaning is misunderstood or so is the conention of SOTA.

I know this is a real object but to me it has a haunting resemblance to a top down view of one of the new halo 2 maps, desolation. Any body else think so?
