Avery Fane may be a real person

Unread post by Anton P. Nym »

At least, he has a page on IMDB and has real-world credits. Before we get too rambunctious contacting him, we may want to see if we can rent a film in his filmography. If so, we should probably back off. (If not, and if no specialty place can find the films, he may actually be in-game.)

-- Steve thinks it'd be an impossible place to be in, as an actor "outed" in an ARG. Say you're an actor, and you blow apart the fourth wall... say nothing, and watch the tidal waves of harassment roll in...

Yeah. I don't think he really has anything to do with it. Although it seems a tad starnge that a professional actor would take part in a hoax merely to piss people off.

if he isn't part of the game, why did he make a post about SOTA two days ago - before we had found halo3.com/comic/ or anything, and have a seemingly radom image of a covenant language translator posted in his blog?

the company that did ILB and many other ARGs for microsoft and other games/movies has gone pretty far in the past as well. for the movie A.I. they inserted a fake credit at the bottom of the movie poster. i think getting a fake imdb page created would be no problem.

as to avery's film credits, they are almost entirely japanese, making them significantly more difficult to verify. in his only credits assocated with american companies, he is always an extra/background/model, also making it extremely difficult to verify if not impossible.

He didn't. He edited the dates so it looked like he posted before we found out about SOTA

Or, it's an immersion tactic. He could be a plant - we know he's an actor, so why bother change? He's "just" some actor who happened to stumble upon SOTA and now is in their inner circle. Well, that could be the ARG puppeteers' line of thought. If you have a planted actor who already has a fully functional MySpace, why even bother to have him change it? It just adds more depth to the ARG.

Then again, he could be a complete hoax. Either or.
