I found out about it through digg, and decided to start snooping, and came up with a more accurate date...

State todays date please.

Sufficient contextual data acquired. 871803909 ± 384 hours since event. Compiling local archives/resources. [Hibernating] until next incident
I did the math. Converting that by dividing for hours, days, and years gives you about 99,521 years.

However, there are more than 365 days per year. I had a hard time finding the proper number to use, but Wikipedia led me to use the number of days from one summer solstice in the northern hemisphere to the next (365.24162603 days):

871803909 ± 384 hours since event
(871804293 to 871803525)
36,325,163.875 ± days since event
(36,325,178.875 to 36,325,146.875)
99,455 years 58 days (Tropical Time) since event
(73 to 41 days)

Notice that the events around Halo 3 occur somewhere around 2552 (search for the Halo timeline). Take away 2007 (current year), and you get... 545 years. 99,455 + 545 = 100,000 years.

However, this didn't seem very accurate to me, so I made a little PHP script which figures it out for me.

That would put 100,000 years after the event somewhere around June 15th, 2553 (99,454 - 2007 + 2553 = 100,000). Approximately June 15th (give or take 16 days, or June 01-June 30).

also, keep in mind in the qoute you guys are using to come up with the "about 100,000 years ago" he ment ABOUT. 99,520 years is about 100,000 years. when would you say the wheel was invented? 56,233 years ago OR about 50,000 years ago

really the fact that we have a qoute from a Bungie rep saying that the forunners disappeared about 100,000 years ago, a qoute saying the last time the rings fired was about 100,000 years ago, and a qoute from AR saying that the last time the rings were fired was 99,520-ish years ago, we can safely assume that all the "about 100,000 years ago" means more percisly 99,520 years ago.

also, in the ARG we need to remember that we are not dealing with AR in 2552, we are dealing with him now, you are all assuming that AR is speaking to use through a 500 year span of time. we dont know that the Forunners are, we dont know if there are other life forms in the universe, we just dont know. when he gave us the date he was saying from that exact moment in time that was how many hours it has been since the last time th rings have fired, not when was the last time the rings were fired if we lived 500 years in the future.

Exactly. They were fired in BC 97,447 on June 15th (give or take about 16 days). My wording at the very end is a little off. The 9,454 years is right (that's how long from RIGHT NOW it has been since they fired), but I calculated the days to get the day and month it was fired, not how many days before the year ended.

So June 15th, 97,447 B.C. (give or take 16 days). 100,000 years after THAT date puts us at June 15th, 2553 AD (give or take 16 days). Which is when the halo 3 events seem likely to occur.
