I think the number 7 came from speculation from the first server text "Array Recorder", but I'n not sure.

As for the dimensions of the shield world-mini-Dyson sphere, I think they said it was actually in another dimension, somewhere in slipspace in the center of Onyx...even though it was at least 1 AU in radius. (GoO pg 380-381, 1e)

The text on page 380 contains an error...

I calculate a diameter of one hundred fifty million kilometers-two astronomical units, or a radius equivalent to the distance of the earth orbiting its sun. (Dr. Catherine Halsey)

ONE Astronomical Unit is equal to 149,597,871km or Earths greatest distance from the sun.

so the diameter would be equal to TWO astronomical units if the DIAMETER she states was more like 300 million kiliometers...

no, the shield world (the one we know about) activated with the halo's
Sorry to bring this up, but the back cover of the book says Onyx is triggered when the MC destroys Halo 04. I've read the book, and I remember that quote. I suppose we just have a double standard here.

Both events DID happen in the same day, I believe.
Also- How did Chief destroy Halo if it already fired? The Halo "activating" was when it was charging up and preparing to fire- not when it actually did fire.
Either way, the shield worlds do open before the Halos actually fire.

The Chief inserts the index on the basis of the misinformation that 343GS was giving him, but Cortana calls it all off before the activation process gets going. So maybe the shield world is triggered as soon as the index is inserted.

And honestly none of you ever wondered why the shield worlds closed 2 weeks after the halos were supposed to fire?

Part of a bigger plan? :?

It is interesting, but perhaps even the Forerunners in their technology needed time to retreat behind the shield...? FTL travel in the Halo Universe sure isn't instantaneous, or humans wouldn't need cryo for long jumps.

You're only half right. The human FTL drives aren't fast enough to make cryos useless. However, the Covenant have faster ships, (said by Cortana, Halo 1), and they probably designed their ships off of that Forerunner ship or ships they have. Also, backwords engineering is never 100% effective, so the Forerunner ships probably are near instantaneous, once you think of the Forerunner's jump to Earth at the end of Halo 2.

Star Trek is so much easier.... :geek:
