Orion Classifications

Unread post by BigO 65 »

Does anyone have any thoughts about how the Orion classifications fit in with the SPARTANS that we all know and love?

At first it seemed the the SPARTAN-II program had been reclassified into the second iteration of the Orion program, of which two more followed, the SPARTAN-III's and the never before seen Orion-IV's.

However, the recent mention of Orion-IV operations occurring in 2535 brings that theory under scrutiny.

Any thoughts?

One thing I might propose is that the different generations mentioned fall under what we consider different programs:

G1 = Orion Project
G2 = SPARTAN-II
G3 = SPARTAN-III

Then again, that would only cover the Orion-IV's and completely leave the first three programs up to speculation. I'm just spitting in the wind guys.

I think that the Orion IVs are the next evolution of the SPARTAN program.

Orion ~ original program for super-soldiers. Met with marginal success.
SPARTAN-II ~ enhanced troopers with top of the line technology used for important missions. Went public to boost moral.
SPARTAN-III ~ fire and forget soldiers for imperative suicide missions. Never brought to public.
Orion(SPARTAN)-IV ~ possible data retrieval units outfitted with advanced infiltration technology?

I believe that the G1/G2/G3 designation is to differentiate between the training cycles of the Orion-IVs, much like the Alpha/Beta/Charlie companies that where trained within the SPARTAN-III program.

I still cannot figure out what the Kavacha Armor System is, what it does, and how it may or may not be related to the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor System...

It's been made plain to me that the Orion and Spartan projects were separate from each other, though relatively simultaneous in operation. While the Spartans were essentially used up in heavy battle situations, the Orions were less heavily utilized and therefore their program survived the war to become the preeminent modified soldier program.

Are we even sure the SPARTANs exist in this storyline? Chair always avoids answering questions involving them, as if they do not exist.

Operating under the assumption that this ARG does take place in the Halo canon universe and there are indeed Spartans, it seems to me that the SPARTAN-II program is the off-shoot.

Project ORION came first, which recruited from existing UNSC personnel. SPARTAN-II was inspired by ORION and given the II designation to honor past efforts, but operated under a different methodology of abducting and indoctrinating children. ORION-II and onward seems to maintained the practice of recruiting adults, while borrowing the advanced bioengineering pioneered by Dr. Halsey.

I think.

I tend to agree more with this theory, it seam to make more sense. Why would you change an entire universe's knowledge of project names?
