Server 1

Unread post by Ibeechu »

Sometime around 10 and 11 PM EST on June 20th, an update finally happened. What was once the Transmission Log at 206.16.223.65 became the next big part of this ARG. It led to a Windows Live sign-in page and then to a page containing this:

Clicking on the speaker icon made an eerie message play. From whom is debated. Right-click and Save Target As; please don't destroy my bandwidth. Thanks :P

Here's a transcript (as best as I could hear it, anyway):
The Scary Message Thing wrote:This is how it all begins.
Just in time to, once again, dance on the knife-edge of oblivion.
To relive what the Halos have hoped to destroy, and more.
For two enemies now stand, where before, there was only one.
With fate we escaped, and fate we may relive.
I almost convinced myself that no one was listening; that the waves of the past would roll through once again.
But a chance remains to change the universe anew.
Learn of our past.
Take these keys and dip from the wells of history.
Perhaps through others' eyes, you may find how to save us all.
NOTE: Thanks to C-Ledge, Kenshin, and Trevelyan for correcting my mistake in the second line :)

After copying or writing down your key, you would click the arrow and go to another page where you'd input your key and have to apparently solve a riddle key as well. I unfortunately didn't have the mind to screenshot that, sorry :( This was all part of a registration, of which only the first 100 people were allowed in. After this page, you'd get to the meat of the update. You select your country and enter your birthdate, and finally get to see some fun stuff. (After those 100 slots were filled, the first two pages I mentioned were removed. That's why when you go there now, you go straight to the Country Select page)

A light shines down a narrow corridor and a metallic object floats towards you. The thing stops and begins to spin. It spins until you click on it. When you click on it, it stops moving for 7 seconds. This allows you to click on one of the 5 icons on the object. Clicking 4 of these will download files to your computer. The fifth makes the machine play a video.

Here's a Mythica link to the video (thanks to crash for capturing it for us): http://useruploads.mythica.org/view/int ... encaps.WMV

Crash also found some frames in the video containing hidden messages:
crash wrote:The first one (after "That One Day..."):

"if you are that witness, and it seems that we pinned all of our hopes on this single suicidal plan"
Image
Second one (after "Know that a thousand other plans..."):

"Millions of brave and honored souls died trying to avert this desperate, terrible solution"

The other files from the Flash are as follows:

THIS IS MY FINAL ENTRY, AND I AM LEFT WITH ONE HOPE
THAT ONE DAY, SOMEONE, ANYONE IS AROUND TO WITNESS THIS WARNING

IT HAS AN ANTITHESIS JUST AS POWERFUL
IT IS THAT THING THAT WE MUST OBLITERATE

EDIT 2: Before, I had said that the fact that Halo 3 lists server 1 as being open while the server page says, "Server 5 Opened" was an error. I have come to the conclusion now that it is quite intentional. 5 and 1 are recurring. If you type in the original IP address for the timer (26.16.223.65), it changes the last digit to a 1 (206.16.223.61). The picture whose filename is 070107 is labeled 070507. And, of course, the server 5/1 opened thing. Also, there are 5 spokes on the glyph. I can guess that this is more than coincidence and that 5 and 1 are going to become very important numbers.

As always, message Sir Topham Hat or me if you have any updates or corrections on this. Happy ARGing! :)
