King Pyrrhus Allusion

The text below was taken directly from a thread I created at Bungie.net, but was overswarmed with rampant members. I registered here JUST to get my findings some breathing room. Also, I had hoped that I could get a little more inciteful replies, as some of the members over at Bungie.net seemed to shrug it off.

Just an interesting peace of information I'd like to share with you all. Something that I think many might find at the very least interesting.

First, remind yourselves of this line from the recorder data file:

{D-com} It's done. By my hands. The pyrrhic solution is ignited. All I have left is the quiet of
space to lull me to sleep. I will dream of you.

Doesn't the word "pyrrhic" strike you as odd? Initially, I thought it has something to do with the Phorr, a race from one of Bungie's earlier games, and immediately a light bulb went off in my head. Maybe, JUST maybe, Halo and Marathon have a DIRECT relationship.

So, I did what all cool people do. I Google'd it. The very first page I got was a Wikipedia article:

King Pyrrhus

Coincidentally enough, the second closest match resulted in this:

Pyrrhic foot in poetry (reminded me of Gravemind)

Here's the odd thing I realized though. King Pyrrhus, and the events surrounding him, all took place approximately 300 years BC. Thing is, aren't the Forerunners dated back almost 100,000 years? BEFORE King Pyrrhus happened? If all this is true, then how could whoever {D-com} is even KNOW about Pyrrhus, let alone use that word as an allusion to King Pyrrhus (read the article on Wikipedia, as it describes how he had a victory, but at great costs to his people, just like a civilization we like to call the Forerunner).

All this backs up the theory of time travel in the Halo Universe (technically, time travel is possible in the Halo Universe...just read the books).

Bungie is known for hiding subtle, yet very relative clues in everything they create, so, I don't think we should rule out anything at this point.

I'd bet it's a translation from a different language and "pyrrhic" was closest in meaning. But that's not any fun to think about. Let's hear more ideas.

quote]

AR did say that the other entity that was coming could play with time. i think the quote is " he plays with time even while he hides in its fold" (really badly paraphrased... sorry its just to early in the AM to go back and find the exact quote."

I dont think time travel can be entirley ruled out at this stage...

Pyrrhic as an adjective can be used in many contexts, in this case its used to clarify what the solution is: the activation of the rings (the double edged weapon)

Since modern day english developed over a long period of time, and has many origins, none of what you'd see would be what the forerunners would have natively written in. So, its all just contemporary translations.

This is unrelated, none of the message could have been in English, so the point is moot. Locking.
