With the Artifact Location page open, hold down enter and left click one of the names.

It's old. You don't have to click, well I don't. All you have to do is repeat enter.

I don't know who, I think it was a mod, that when the text repeated, they thought it could have been Asian text

Of particular note are the first two characters. Even though I know that it's an illusion, they look like very convincing Japanese or Korean.

Is it just me or is the randomised text scrolling much faster now?

It is- and the stars are going away faster- 3 and a half minutes for all of em execpt 13 to be gone.

Perhaps it really is a timer and its speeding up to meet the date exactly at midnight.

I am staying up all night to be sure I don't miss anything if something happens.

Same with me- but i doubt that it wil be updated until 12:00 AM pacific.
