Yah, the Song of Roland is a major piece of ancient French literature - it tells the story of a Charlamagne and, of course, the eponymous Roland.

The names of a couple A.I.s we are familiar with are taken from the Song of Roland - one of them is Durandal (The Sword of Roland) and the other is Cortana (A symbolically broken blade said to have belonged to Edward the Confessor - this blade actually exists and is viewable in the Tower of London's Crown Jewels exhibit.).

Perhaps most curiously (A topic that has been covered many times), Cortana is said to be engraved with the following:

My name is Cortana, of the same steel and temper as Joyeuse and Durandal.

He used "OMG" in his post... doesn't sound like a professional academic to me... are we being duped? But the "return" does coincide with the new site find. :S
