Admittedly, alot of the stuff in Revelations of John and the Books of John could be a coincidence. But I, personally, think that the Ark (which is, in Halo, probably somewhere in Africa) is a reference to the Ark of the Covenant, which is mentioned in the holy books of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and is thought by many to be hidden somewhere in Africa.

EDIT: And then there's also (obviously) all of the writing on Noah who builds an ark to escape the flood.

This is Revelation 10:8 verbatim from the Bible:

Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: "Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land."

I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but the scroll makes me think of the indexes in the precvious Halos.

I still think looking in the Bible is going in the wrong direction. I'll now do a continuation of my Bullshit!-style experiment in which I only used Revelations. For this part, I will thumb through the Bible, counting to 3, close my eyes and drop my finger on the page and read the nearest verse.

Phase 1:
Ezekiel 14:15 wrote:If I were to cause wild beasts to prowl the land, depopulating it so that it became a waste, traversed by none because of the wild beasts.
Sound to anyone else like a description of the Flood?

Phase 2:
Sirach 12:9 wrote:Dispute not about what is your concern, in the strife of the arrogant take no part.
A bit more obscure, but it DOES mention to ignore a concern, just like AR's superior told us to do.

Phase 3: (This one actually contains spoilers of Fall of Reach)
1 Samuel 25:1 wrote:
Samuel died, and all of Israel gathered to mourn him; they buried him in his home in Ramah.

Obviously a reference to Sam-034's death. Israel represents John and Kelly, and "his home" represents the battlefield, where all SPARTANs are most comfortable.
The Bible is very easy to use to draw parallels because of the vague and cryptic language. It's the exact same thing as Nostradomus' writings. And, it's very similar to the technique of people who allegedly talk to the dead. The tchnique most use is called "cold reading" and it works because of how vague it is. The speaker will say something vague like, "Your son is telling me to tell you about the flower," to which the one being read might say, "OMG! He's talking about my mother's flower necklace!" Well, no, he's talking about the flower. You WANT there to be a connection, so you make one. I'll use Onyx Flame's example. He connects the scroll to the Index. It kind of fits, but which parts?
Revelations 10:8 wrote:Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.
"Take that scroll" references what Guilty Spark wanted to the Master Chief to do. "...lies in the sea and on the land." The Library represents land, and the Flood represents sea, right? But, this is reaching. Unless you were to make these connections on your own, it would just look like another Bible passage. As I demonstrated, pretty much any block of text can be made to look like it references something it really doesn't. It just takes imagination and the right amount of spin to connect them.

quick clarify: only when taken out of context. In context, the texts apply quite clearly to people, events, places... now back to your regularly scheduled arg :P

Jeez--this is obviously a reference to the blind wolf, now wandering forever in an unimplemented build of the game.

;)

Messier 108 is a spiral galaxy in the Great Bear. Since we have pretty much established from the servers that the Flood aren't from 'round here, could it be that that is their original location? A pretty far out guess, but it's almost possible...

Now THAT...my fellow ARG'er...is where the gap between :geek: and :ugeek: is jumped...I think they have already said that Bungie said that Halo 3 would tie up the loose ends...so I think that one of the Terminals will probably reveal the origin of the Flood(like where they came from). Might as well throw my hat in the fire...I say that the reason 108 is reoccuring throughout all of Bungie's stuff is because, frankly, they just like that number...just like the number 7 :!:
