We assume though, that the Forerunner were a single race. They could have easily been a group of different races, which had evolved to the point of near god-hood in terms of technological knowledge. And with the assumption of God-hood, comes the actions...

Spartan Seraph... you just put into words what I have been formulating for a very long time. It explains everything... but I wonder about N'Chala and the aboriginal subspecies. An alien race finds earth and decides humans should take over their legacy once they are gone... but humans aren't gone so obviously any forrunner on earth would also have survived. Interbreeding with aliens seems... odd seeing as the other races we have seen, grunts brutes etc just don't seem all that "compatable". So if the other idea is true, that we are the forrunners who have gone primitive and forgotten technology, then why didn't N'Chala know what the sentinels were. Had it already been that long. Seems like it would be hard to forget your past if you have giant floting bits of tech flying around building a less that super secret base...

Thoughts?

So far their have been many biblical references. The way I thought about this problem was to assume that the Forerunner created us in their own image - essentially we could be clones of the Forerunners. Sure we may evolved from the original form but we are still essentially Forerunner. The purpose of this is to create a clean slate - to create a race of Forerunner that knew nothing of the Flood.

All of the biblical references can also be seen as parts of Forerunner history being assilimated into our own over time - i.e. the Flood and Noah's Ark from the bible - possibly being created in God's image. Also, I remember seeing on the History Channel that a lot of ancient cultures had similar mythical stories involving a great flood and a sunken city (as in Atlantis - maybe a tie-in to the Ark being underground?)

If the Forerunner was a groop of people then shouldnt we be calling them Forerunners. Or could it be just one all Knowing almightey person that usses machines to do there biding. That would explane the huge amount of A.I.s hanging around.

Now, until Halo 4 comes out this year, you can't really be sure. In the book Glasslands, the engineers refuse to tell Halsey. Q: What what happen if some covenant got ahold of those engineers (Huragok)[ original ones that never had contact with the covenant and were found by Halsey and Lucy(Spartan III) in the dimensional bubble]
A1:The engineers tell them and they go out to find them. Fortunately, the Forerunners would, without a doubt, be out of the galaxy if that was 100,000 years ago, and, with so many rings, they most likely survived. The elites (and maybe a few loyal brutes) would search for them and, even with slipspace it would take them a very long time to get there, yet alone find them in yet another huge area.
A2:The covenant (elites) try to beat the engineers into telling them, but it doesn't work.

I like this a lot, but where does the human/Forerunner connection fit into the idea? If the Forerunner planned to fire the Halos, step out from behind their shields, and continue as normal, why are we "reclaimers," and what are we supposed to reclaim? Why do we have some special relationship with them (somewhat able to operate Forerunner machinery) and why do the Covenant hate us so much (and not try to make us join them)?

What I mean is, if the Forerunner didn't voluntarily commit suicide, why did they do...whatever it is they did with us...to seemingly prepare us to take over where they left off?

Not trying to cut you down, I'd just like to see your idea go further. It has the ring of truth to it, to me.

The reason the Covenant hates the humans so much was because they are the only race the Covenant discovered that instead of studying the forerunner artifacts like every other race, they actually destroyed them.

I don't think so. Contact Harvest has since explained almost all of this, and the bottom line is that we didn't know much/anything about the Forerunners, and the Covenant displeasure with humans was a behind-the-scenes power play by Truth.
