Well, about stream-of-consciousness, rainbows and Halos...there are seven Halos in existence, and the rainbow has seven colors, so each Halo ring and its respective monitor are color-coded with one color of the rainbow. For instance, Guilty Spark, at one end, is blue, while Penitent Tangent is red, so Iris might be said to ride the light of the Halos to take us to heaven...but I digress, I might be heading off on a tangent (Pun intended).

Iris is the representation of the rainbow, and all those connections have already been made. Keep thinking though. ;)

Since Halo seems to be heavily influenced by mythology, I thought i should point out some overlapping items.

I cought the mentions of the Titans and rainbows of Greek mythology and their ties to Iris and the other Gods/Godesses. These are also big themes in Norse Mythology as well. It is a Rainbow bridge that connects the world of the Aesir (the Norse Gods) and Midgar (Earth). Also, the Titans, which can be interpreted through synonyms as Giants were the arch enemies os the Gods of this pantheon.

Now for the tie to the Halo-Universe: The SPARTAN armor, titled MJOLNIR, Thor's hammer.

Man...Bungie really likes Mythology!!

Going right back to the start of this thread... the conection between the shape of the Halo and all the other bits of evidence we have found so far is very similar to the Iris in your Eye (it also draws its name for the greek)

I just thought this connection might be usefull in some way as the iris in eye is something that light passes through and that we use to see with (and after all we are all currently "looking /searching" for answers...)

I know that the mythylogical connentions are mounting up but i think the physical connection shouldnt be over looked here. Perhaps there is a physical clue to be found relating to the eye, we have already found one in the in MCs Visor (covering the eyes)..???

The riddle:
Who is the path of light from blackest Earth to brilliant heaven?
On whose golden wings will we fly from here to there?
The website:
Iris Transmission Complete.
Awaiting Delivery
To me, Iris sounds like some sort of connection protocol or bridge that must be established between a client and a server before traffic can be sent over the bridge. From ARs quote, perhaps it's not just information that can be sent, but perhaps entities as well. AR had to adjust the array in order to make a "connection".

The whole thing smacked of my TV dish..."Lost signal. Searching...."

"Ghosts of Onyx" End-of-book SPOILER warning! :o

Maimbot 9000 wrote: Is Iris a spacecraft? What we saw opening in the Halo 3 announcement trailer--is that just a huge-ass hangar door opening (irising out, you might say)?
Have you read "Ghosts of Onyx"? At the climax of the book, a portal "atop an artificial hill of concentric rings" comes into play which transports the remaining Spartans and Dr. Halsey to another world. "The top of the structure was crowned with a meter-wide ledge and thirteen fin-like towers..." Sounds like a smaller version of the structure in the announcement video.

That's no hangar door... I think Bungie's replaced the small teleporters from Halo 1 & 2 with man-cannons, and put in another, MUCH larger teleporter.

Here's a wild theory, Iris is Cortana. There are plenty of clues in the books to suggest that time travel is possible. Guilty Spark, knowing the Master Chief is a reclaimer, asks him "Why do you hesitate to do that which you have already done?" This implies that, at the very least, a reclaimer fired the halos the first time. Possibly a spartan or the Master Chief. We know that when Cortana destroyed the Covenant AI she recognized bits of her own code. The Shaw-Fujikawa drives are also known to distort time.

A one way trip 100,000 years into the past is possible. So once the halos were fired, there's nothing for an AI to do but sit around for 100,000 in a Forerunner installation going batty. One of the things that is mentioned in the Cortana letters "It is a blurred line that lies at the edge of Godhood and Insanity. Guess which side of it I am on. Feeling lucky?" It is quite likely that after a few hundred years of mucking with the locals, she's come to think of herself as a God.

A well written idea AI23, and we always like those. But timetravel has been dismissed as a possibility in the Halo universe. We're operating on that assumption until evidence clearly suggests otherwise, and we get confirmation.
