Re: noticed somthing
well, I have seen about 5 seperate articles confirming the price drops occuring on 8/8. Is the stand up really only supposed to hold the game case? that's disappointing.
Re: noticed somthing
hmm... a little side note for gamin' fans... games are usually released tuesday and thursday.. also.. Super Smash Bro's comes out Dec 3 (huh.. a monday...) , and GTA 4 has been delayed to next year. I don't think Mircosoft was really worried about any competition on this one, but rather they're releasing it so early to fully meet christmas demand. Also, i think that the 8/8 will pertain to both IRIS and the pricedrop... two HUGE things are happening in mircosoft right now... $50 price drop on a system they've recorded $2 billion dollars of losses in, and Halo 3... why not mix them together? it's probably the best way to grab attention from the most amount of people...

Re: noticed somthing
I can back these release date comments up with about 20 years of retail experience in almost every field (books, music, video games, movies).Ibeechu wrote:It's pretty much always Tuesday. For reference, all Halo games were (will be) released on a Tuesday.
Video games: Tuesday's the "release date," but most game developers use that loosely. Only the big name titles are anywhere near firm on being in stores on their Tuesday dates (Halo, Halo 2, Oblivion, Fable all come to mind). Halo 3 is seeing a Monday night (midnight)/Tuesday morning (12am) release for the stores who can get permission to open for it. In my experience, if a game "releases" on a Wednesday or Thursday, you can usually blame UPS or FedEx for delivering late, or the developer for shipping late. Sometimes, though, as someone else here pointed out, it's because the stores are in BFE...
Books, Music, Movies all release Tuesday unless they are specially-designed to release a different day due to the publisher or artist wanting to "surprise" the consumer population (this rarely "surprises" anyone--if it's not out Tuesday, most people don't seem to notice). Harry Potter books, released on weekends, being the BIG exception in the books case.
Comics are standardly a Wednesday event, as noted before in this thread.
Re: noticed somthing
I think the Harry Potter thing was probably because of the large number of kids who read the books... Just a guess, though.Frogwart wrote:Books, Music, Movies all release Tuesday unless they are specially-designed to release a different day due to the publisher or artist wanting to "surprise" the consumer population (this rarely "surprises" anyone--if it's not out Tuesday, most people don't seem to notice). Yeah, pretty much. And weekends are better for most kids to be out destroying retail outlets than weekday evenings are. The little darlings need their sleep...
Re: [General Discussion] Gamestop.com
Not take this to far off topic, but game companies have no such day that they usually release on. The Tuesday deal was only made for other forms of media to ensure that mom and pop stores would have fair and equal chance at selling product before big companies with larger payrolls in marketing could take all the consumer shares.
Games can be released on whatever day they want it to come out, with the only exception being Street Dated games. These are almost like other forms of media where they need to specify a certain day to ensure widespread sale and mass marketing of their product.

Re: [General Discussion] Gamestop.com
They COULD be released on any day they wanted, but it's just very, very, very common for them to release on Tuesday. That's what we're saying.
Re: [General Discussion] Gamestop.com
well the special 8/8 signs and stuff could be to make up for the comic not coming out on time. They could very well have been planning to have something in an insert of the comic. Now they have to make up and drop a sign.
