Flash Source Search

Unread post by DHalo »

Background XMLs DISCOVERED:

TechIsCool in the IRC Chan helped me figure out the remaining links to the puzzle.

http://halo3.com/content/en-us/xml/main.xml

That will link you to the list of XMLs you can use. Then go to another xml (ex. http://halo3.com/content/en-us/xml/story.xml)

which will link you to the specific section. If you want an image, just take the link and put it after http://www.halo3.com and it will link you there. (ex. images/story/story1.jpg becomes http://www.halo3.com/images/story/story1.jpg)

WHAT HAPPENED EARLIER...

A while back, I posted on HBO an idea to search the source of the Halo3.com flash to find goodies.

http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/hal ... ead=797149

No one payed attention...

Well, now I think there is no better time than now to search to maybe unlock something in this puzzle. Maybe we will, maybe we won't. Maybe we are supposed to, maybe we aren't...

Well, in any case, here are the files I found on their servers to date. There may be more, but this is what I've got. I'm going to start looking, but please feel free to help.

If these need to be taken down, please let me know.

Halo 3 Files

PS: Thanks to MrYankees for hosting.

EDIT: Shell is fixed, re-download if necessary.

I think a good focus is to locate more SWFs/XMLs, as I am missing locations of many embedded/linked images including most of the top bar items like story and characters.

UPDATE: After arranging the files in the same file structure as the website.

root/shell.xml
root/flash/footer.swf
root/flash/topLayer.swf
root/flash/regions.swf
root/flash/main.swf
root/xml/tracking.xml
root/xml/shell.xml

It loaded the shell up to 40%. That means that 60% of the data is still not located. If anyone can get the SoThink SWF Decompiler, and help out, that'd be appreciated.

It would be most helpful for someone who has a flash editor program to take apart those .swf's.

To tide you guys over, here is a little video I made with the animated background, with the words "Halo 3" on top. You might be able to use it as a Vista desktop...:)

to use it as a background in vista you need Vista Ultimate. if you have a different version then search for DreamScenes for Vista and I there is somewhere to get DreamScene for other version of Vista. not quite so legitimate though, as its supposed to be a Vista Ultimate feature.

Dug and dug and dug. Doesn't appear to have anything significant. But if someone wants to do digging of their own...

Here are the action script files for the halo3.com website.

Only thing found was the link to download the bg.flv file. Which is at

http://www.halo3.com/xml/tracking.xml

I've searched to the best of MY abilities. If anyone else is more experienced, or isn't, but still wants to try, please do.

That link above is the best bet for finding the rest of the content. Good luck.
