The Conservation Measure is the only sweet note in this discordant symphony we've arranged.

We know that the Flood's biology is alien enough that it must be extragalactic in origin.

But where did it come from?

The scrolling binary along the bottom of the Log video is:
01001001 01110100 00100111 01110011 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01101111 01101110 01101100 01111001 00100000 01100011 01101111 01101110 01110011 01110100 01110010 01110101 01100011 01110100 01101001 01110110 01100101 00100000 01100001 01100011 01110100 01101001 01110110 01101001 01110100 01111001 00100000 01101001 01101110 00100000 01100100 01100101 01100011 01100001 01100100 01100101 01110011 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01100100 01100101 01110011 01110100 01110010 01110101 01100011 01110100 01101001 01101111 01101110 00101110 00100000

From unforum (Vossk, decoded by Cloaked Hunter):

The Conservation Measure is the only sweet note in this discordant symphony we've arranged.

{/It's the only constructive activity in decades of destruction/}

{/Researching the adversary as we protect the worthy/}

We know that the Flood's biology is alien enough that it must be extragalactic in origin.

But where did it come from?

{/And why did it come here?/}

Edit: spelling

i think the conservation being reffereed to is the keeping of the flood specimens on halo

I think the line

{/Researching the adversary as we protect the worthy/}

Implies the conservation they're doing is keeping us, Elites, Hunters, etc., protected from the Halo firing.

It has been widely speculated that the Index used to trigger the Halos is an index of the DNA sequences of races to be preserved. In other words, it's basically "List of Folks What Shouldn't Get Killed by This Here Halosplosion." This latest video seems to point in that direction.

I think it's more likely that the line is a reference to the Dyson Sphere worlds that the forerunner had established. If I recall (although I might not be correct) there was some reference in Ghosts of Onyx to only certain people being allowed into the Dyson Sphere, the so called "worthy" this line refers to. And the researching the adversary would be the flood samples maintained on the Halos for the installation monitors to study, in an effort to come up with a more effective weapon. I think the forerunner would have known that the flood would not be so easily defeated and would still linger. There is also the fact they beleive the flood is extra-galactic, and they might have been concerned about another invasion attempt by the flood, even after the firing of the Halos.

I would lean more toward a shield world as described in GoO as well. Having a DNA "filter" would be pointless- keeping any life out in the open would let the flood survive, making the whole Halo idea pointless.

I just consulted my copy of Ghosts Of Onyx, and the younger spartans, the Doc and the remaing spartan II's are able to gain entrance because they are able to fight off the sentinels and be able to just "know" how to open the sphere, kinda like how the chief just "knew" how to activate the light bridge. However, we cannot know it the covenant could've entered the Sphere, as Kurt sacrificed himself so the nukes placed around the planet would detonate, which in turn killed the covenant.

They're just setting the table....

The Forerunner have stacked the deck in our favor, right from the beginning. "The Castaway Theory", the SOTA philosophy, the sound file for server 4, all of this pointing to how and why we are Reclaimers.

Tweaks in our DNA to help us along; make us more innovative, more curious, help us intuitively understand Forerunner technology. Allow us to insert the index and trigger the halos, to enter into the special room on Reach, the whole kit-n-kaboodle. Compared with humanity's capacity for innovation and technological leaps, the Covenant's species move forward at a snail's pace.

Boosts in technology, pushes forward along the way. Perhaps monitors pointed humanity in the right direction whenever we lose our way. The Greeks? The Renessaince? FTL drives?

Humanity was on its way forward, but the Forerunner intervened on our behalf. They molded us for our task, our destiny, the Reclaimation of the galaxy and the broader task of defeating the Flood on a Universal scale. They could not do it, but they effectively created a plan in which they could re-try from the last Save point. Clear the slate, restart the clock thousands of years before the Flood might appear again, and turbo-charge a species towards learning as much as it can about the adversary. Populate labs for study, with specimens intact.

They protected the worthy while preparing this plan (refer to the Halo 3 comic). But in the midst of this, a Forerunner entity (AI or other?) had second thoughts. A philisophical dilemma in which the entity ultimately (but discreetly) sides with the Flood. This entity sabotages the Reclaimation project to the extent that Humanity never gets the training course. We miss the boat. We show up on Alpha Halo wearing only a Class II containment suit and no idea what the hell 343GS is talking about.

The Prophets have uncovered this truth, or at least, have an inkling about it. They must destroy humanity, lest they lose their seat of power. Are exposed as false. Perhaps not all Prophets know this, but some must.

That's it. That's the fricking story I've been trying to nail down for 3 fricking years.

Random speculation:
- Should it matter that the Boomerang Nebula is RAINBOW colored? My first thought was that it was a Halo firing
- The stars (systems, planets?) disappearing on the Server 5 page likely represent Flood consuming planets
- 13 are left untouched. Earth, 8 species of the Covenant, and Onyx. That's 10 of 13. Other failed conservatories?
- Do people think "the Artifact" is referring to the Ark? Or something different?
