Re: Teraforming of Halo Rings
The reason I say that is because it would seem like a counter-productive plan to put the Flood on the things that you need to get to to destroy them. If you can't get anyone through to activate the dang things, and from what 343 makes it sound like the Ark can only be used if there is a abort in th...

2 AU in diameter. Which would make it 1 AU in radius, a standard Dyson Sphere.ODST Epsilon wrote:150,000,000 KM according to GoO, Halsey says it's 2 AU.
(If it were any larger, there would be no liquid water on the surface due to distance from the sun.)

Re: Teraforming of Halo Rings
I can think of several reasons... A. Perhaps the ecosystem was necessary for the testing of new countermeasures against the Flood. Remember, they aren't solely killing machines--that's just the backup. B. Or maybe it's purely decorative. Why do we have landscaping out in front of military HQs? The F...

Re: Need Help With Halo Firing Logic
Onyx was a shield world, but wasn't the dyson sphere significantly smaller than an entire planet? Umm... the sphere is what's at the far end of the Slipspace gate on Onyx. A Dyson Sphere encircles a small star at about 1 AU. It would be much, much, much larger than any planet. (Think along the line...

Re: How does Halo work?
Step 5: Take over planets that have had 25,000 years to regenerate. This is your error. 25,000 years is not a particularly long time by evolutionary standards. The most that could have evolved in that timeframe is a primitive fish. (Remember, gamma radiation resets evolution back to bacteria.) It d...

Re: How does Halo work?
Is it really so inconceivable that the Halos would use radiation? Think about it. It's only 25,000 years until the galaxy is wiped clean. Even if the Flood were to run, the blast would inevitably catch up to them. With the entire galaxy stripped barren, they don't have time to wait for new species t...

Re: The forerunners...stupid?
But that brings up the question of the Shield Worlds. Why build them if you weren't going to use them? I have a feeling that they were en route when something bad happened. perhaps infestations on the transports, and they had no choice but to kill themselves. And perhaps a select few who went earli...
